Battle Ground Public Schools Seeking Volunteers for Sexual Health Education Committee

Battle Ground Public Schools is bringing together a committee of parents, teachers, and community members to provide feedback on proposed comprehensive sexual health education curricula for grades 5-12.

For the past few months, the College Sexual Health Community Advisory Group has been working on curriculum reviews for grades 5-8 until the board formally asked the district at a meeting on November 22 to move forward on an implementation plan.

The final curricula will be implemented in schools in the fall of 2022.

The district will select six parents/community members, six teachers, and one building administrator to serve on the committee. Candidates will go through a two-step selection process that involves filling out a form by December 12 and participating in a follow-up interview.

Committee members should be selected by the end of December. The committee will then meet weekly in person on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from January 11 to March 29. Meetings will maintain current COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

More information on curriculum review and implementation can be found on the district’s comprehensive sex education adoption plan.
