Launch of the Our Africa by Merck Foundation to solve social and health problems in Africa

Merck Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany, launched its first-ever TV program – “Our Africa by Merck Foundation”. This TV show, the first of its kind, is intended to be the voice of the voiceless and to break the silence on many critical and sensitive social and health issues in Africa.

This pan-African show is conceptualized, produced, directed and hosted by Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation to showcase fashion designers, singers and distinguished guests from various fields with the aim of raising awareness and creating a culture change across Africa.


Expressing her excitement for the launch of the TV program “Our Africa by Merck Foundation”, Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation explained, “I am extremely happy and proud to present our unique new program “Our Africa by Merck Foundation”. Foundation’. I strongly believe that fashion and art should have a purpose beyond entertainment and beauty. They can help raise awareness in our communities about different social and health issues such as put end FGM, end child marriage, end GBV, break the stigma of infertility, support girls’ education, diabetes awareness and healthy living, and more. why I came up with the idea for this beneficial but entertaining television program”.

“I host the show with my co-host Brian Mulondo from Uganda. We will discuss and address various social and health issues relevant to Africa in a very unique way through our African fashion and lifestyle community. ‘art with a purpose. This will be a first-of-its-kind interactive show, which will feature talented fashion designers and singers who are reaching out to communities through their creative work across Africa, added Dr. Rasha Kelej.

The TV program “Our Africa by Merck Foundation” is currently going to be aired in Kenya, Uganda and Ghana, the TV program will also be aired in other African countries soon. Here are the details of the channels the TV show will air on:

Every Saturday at 5:30 p.m. (EAT) on KTN, Kenya

Every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. (EAT) on NTV Uganda

Every Sunday at 2 p.m. on (GMT) GHOne TV, Ghana

Merck Foundation and its partner African First Ladies have recently announced different 8 calls for applications for two award themes for media, fashion designers, filmmakers, musicians/singers and potential new talents in these fields from African countries. The themes for the two award categories are – 1) Breaking the stigma around infertility, Supporting girls’ education, Ending child marriage, Ending FGM, Ending GBV and/or empowerment of women at all levels, and 2) Promoting a healthy lifestyle and raising awareness on Prevention and early detection of diabetes and hypertension.

Additionally, Merck Foundation in partnership with African First Ladies has also released more than 10 inspiring children’s storybooks and more than 25 songs on overcoming infertility stigma, supporting girls’ education and women’s empowerment, in English, French and Portuguese.
