The Hawaii Department of Health issued a red sign to a restaurant in Lahaina, due to an alleged violation.

Lahaina Fish Company, operated by Lahaina Seafood Company Inc., received the sign July 26 and is to remain closed until the DOH conducts a follow-up inspection and all violations are resolved.

The establishment, located at 831 Front Street, was cited on July 22 for the presence of parasites, food debris and grease accumulation; improper cold holding temperatures; and poor protection of food from cross-contamination.

The restaurant had completed professional pest control treatments, so a yellow “Conditional Pass” sign was displayed after the DOH inspector advised the restaurant to perform additional treatments.

During a follow-up inspection on July 26, a department inspector was able to examine the cooking line in more detail. Previous critical violations for cold storage and cross-contamination had been corrected, according to department reports.

Another follow-up inspection is scheduled for August 1.

The DOH Food Safety Branch protects and promotes the health of Hawaii residents and visitors through the education of food industry workers and the regulation of food establishments throughout the state. Management conducts routine health inspections of food establishments where food products are prepared, manufactured, distributed or sold.
